Summary description
The Tagus River as it passes through Aranjuez (Madrid) has historically been subject to numerous interventions and pressures that have led to a strong alteration in its morphology and to a very marked process of incision of the riverbed.
Transversal and longitudinal obstacles have caused a loss of continuity in the river and the disconnection of the riverbed with its floodplains, a problem that is aggravated by the historical occupation of these plains by agricultural fields.
To try to reverse this situation, the CHT (https://www.chtajo.es) has developed a project for the river restoration of a section of the Tagus River in the municipality of Aranjuez, whose actions have begun this September, and which will include forestry treatments, recovery of the riverbed width, sediment contribution and revegetation of the affected areas.

Los obstáculos transversales (puentes, diques y azudes) y longitudinales (motas y muros) han provocado una pérdida de continuidad en el río y la desconexión del cauce con sus llanuras de inundación, problema que se ve agravado por la histórica ocupación de estas llanuras por los campos de cultivo.
Para tratar de revertir esta situación, la Confederación Hidrográfica del Tajo ha desarrollado un proyecto para la restauración fluvial de un tramo del río Tajo en el término municipal de Aranjuez, cuyas actuaciones han comenzado este mes de septiembre, y que incluirá tratamientos selvícolas, recuperación de la anchura del cauce, aporte de sedimentos y revegetación de las zonas afectadas.
